Late Surge Moves Pitt Past UConn

Well my prediction wasn’t 100% accurate, but i got the right team winning. Pitt proved to me that they will be a serious Big East contender heading into March. #16 Pittsburgh(14-2)(4-0) pulled out a big win at the XLCenter in Hartford. Winning the game 67-57 Pitt is now tied for first atop the Big East Conference. This was not everyone’s expected result of the Panthers season. Ashton Gibbs came up big once again with 19 points and went 3-5 from the 3-point land. He also cashed in on some much needed free throws at the end of the game. Gilbert Brown had a good game as well with 17 points. Gary McGhee had a solid game with 8 points and 9 rebounds. It was his sturdy defense that prevented UConn form dominating down low. Pitt led the entire 2nd half until 9:23 to go when they went down by one. Then with some resurging fast breaks they retook the lead 52-49 a few minutes later. UConn can’t get past the Pitt hump losing 5 out of the last 6 to the Panthers; with two strait home losses. Both teams will be strong in the postseason. Pitt returns to the Peterson Events Center on Saturday to take on the Louisville Cardinals, it is the first time at home since December 28th.
