Backyard Brawl: Round 1

Pitt will be hosted by the #6 WVU Mountaineers on Wednesday night, and it will be the first of two games scheduled for this season. Pitt, now #22 after losing 3 out of their last 4, will have to bring their A game to Morgantown if they want to win. Sloppy defense, not an option. Poor 3 point shooting by Gibbs, not an option. Weak rebounding, not an option. This game is one that never disappoints, whether it’s on the football field or the hardwood, this game is big.

Pitt comes in an underdog, but the can exploit some weaknesses of their foes. There have been times when their defense has been sub-par, like against ND or Seton Hall. They have escaped many near upsets, like Cleveland State or Seton Hall. Pitt can win the game if they play 40 minutes of hard-nosed defense. It seems like I am always rambling about defense, but the truth is it wins games! When Pitt beat Connecticut it was the defense that stepped up late and brought home the W.

Da'Sean Butler leads WVU in scoring and is a strong leader

Will the game be won? Well it’s hard to say, but Pitt has a shot. Pick comes tomorrow. Go Pitt.
